Hundreds of moments of kindness came together August 2 as Twin Angels, community supporters, donors and volunteers helped families prepare for a new school year.
ATHENS, GEORGIA — August 2, 2026 — A new school year should begin with possibility.
For many families, however, back-to-school season also brings the difficult reality of buying clothing, shoes and other necessities while managing everyday household expenses.
On August 2, Sharon Barnett and Sheila Hill of Twin Angels, together with an extraordinary group of donors, Karma supporters, volunteers and community partners, did something about it.
They opened the doors.
And the community came.
The Twin Angels Back-to-School Giveaway, held at VFW Post, 835 Sunset Drive in Athens, Georgia, welcomed families and people in need for a day centered on giving, dignity, community and hope.
The turnout was tremendous.
A Room Filled With Possibilities
Inside, racks and tables were filled with clothing. Shoes were displayed throughout the venue. Families moved from area to area looking for items their children could use as they prepared to return to school.
But what filled the building could not be measured only by the number of shoes, shirts, pants or other items available.
The room was filled with possibility.
A pair of shoes could mean a child walking into school with greater confidence.
A new outfit could mean a parent has one less expense to carry.
A donated item could become exactly what another family needed.
And a few hours volunteered by one person could help dozens of families.
This Is What Community Looks Like

This was not simply a giveaway.

Twin Angels was founded by sisters Sheila Hill and Sharon Barnett with a mission centered on bringing hope, comfort and practical support to people facing difficult circumstances.
The Back-to-School Giveaway put that mission into action.
Dignity Is Part of Giving
One of the most important ideas behind community outreach is sometimes the least discussed:
People deserve to receive help with dignity.
Families were not there to be judged.
They were there because a community resource was available to them.
Twin Angels believes helping someone through a difficult season should never diminish that person’s worth.
Giving should lift people.
It should encourage them.
It should remind them that they belong to a community that cares.
Today’s recipient may be tomorrow’s volunteer.
Today’s volunteer may become tomorrow’s donor.
And today’s donor may someday need someone else to stand beside them.
That is community.
We take care of one another.

The Twin Angels Behind the Mission
Sheila Hill and Sharon Barnett established Twin Angels from a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people experiencing difficult circumstances.
Their work extends beyond a single event or a single type of assistance.
Twin Angels works to connect people with food, clothing, housing assistance, transportation, utility assistance and other forms of support while also emphasizing compassion, faith and community.
For Sheila and Sharon, service is personal.
The goal is not simply to talk about helping people.
The goal is to help.
Positive Karma Starts With an Action
Twin Angels uses the idea of Karma to remind us of something simple:
Good has a way of traveling.
One donated pair of shoes reaches one child.
One volunteer helps one family.
That family remembers the kindness.
One person tells another.
One act inspires the next.
And suddenly what began as a single act of generosity becomes a chain of compassion stretching throughout a community.
You don’t have to be wealthy to participate.
You don’t need a large organization.
You don’t need hundreds of hours.
You simply need something you are willing to give.
Your time.
Your talent.
Your resources.
Your connections.
Your encouragement.
Your voice.
